I'll go buy another Lucas or a long Bosch pipe and bend it so that there is no tension when the bolt is screwed on, thats the only reason I can assume that the pipe sheared its head off was because it was at a slight angle when screwed in.

Lucas CAV

Postby Galahad » Mon Jan 23, 2006 5:23 pm

Getting chuffed off now!

Found the same engine in United Vans yard, but with the Lucas CAV pump on it.

The Number 1 Cylinder Diesel injector pipe does fit, but you have to go OVER the inlet manifold, not under. Only a very slight, and I do mean slight bend is needed to get both ends to line up.

Engine end is good and theres no leaks, but the pump end, no matter how hard I tighten it (and I don't want to overtighten it) it still leaks. Not huge amounts on tickover (but enough to make the tickover lumpy), but under load, Diesel drips out and sprays out where the pipe goes inside the collar of the bolt.

Is there any kind of sealant that might be any good to stop this from occuring, because I don't see any logical reason why it should leak, both ends of the pipe sit in their recesses perfectly.

End pipe.

Postby Galahad » Mon Jan 23, 2006 11:15 pm

I don't think so, because surely the pipe ontop of the engine would be angled the same, and that doesn't leak.

Its annoying because this bloody Lucas pipe almost fits perfectly, albeit over the inlet manifold..... grrrrr... At least I can actually drive it at some speed as opposed to none before.

PM sent by the way ;)
