Does the fact that it won't stop o the key make it more likely to be the ECU or the pump (before I run out and buy the wrong one!)???

:? if you think about it ,the ecu will tell it wether to rev or not, or maybe the throttle cencor, but that would not explain why you cant stop it on the key! :? has this van always been a diesel ???? its not been converted has it?????? :?

No it was def. always a diesel, I know the vans history and have a lot of original documents. Would unplugging the ECU when its running tell me something?

not sure but if you unplug the ecu and it stops then i'd guess the ecu is at fault if it doesnt stop then i'd guess the pump is at fault!! :?

just a thought - anyone else think so :?:

It's not running on it's own oil then?

I have had a few DI's lose a rocker shaft bolt or the core plugs at either end of the shaft. The oil pump just fills the rocker cover with oil faster than it can drain to the sump. Consequently it pumps up the breater pipe and into the inlet manifold then runs on as much as it can get.
