transit engines in ldv's

Postby hellron » Mon Feb 27, 2006 4:44 pm

sorry this is not a totally transit question but though someone might be able to help me. ive got a vehicle which is based on an ldv 400 and from what i can gather it has a 1982 transit 2l petrol engine in it, the engine dragged me 3 mates and the huge hulk of a van through eutope and over the alps twice and is on its last legs, i was gonna get a new unit and stick it in. transit engines in ldv's seems to be as a standard thing but i was wondering if up to what year transit engine i could get hold of which would slip[ easily into the place and gearbox that the current 82 sits in? its a rear wheel drive van and the actual vehicle is a 1989. any help would be great.
thanks

 i am sorry mate ldv didnt fit transit engines then in 1989, they were still freight rover i think , maybe somebody had a ford pinto engine installed , if it has a pinto then you are lucky as they are easy to get hold of! not shure about the layland 2ltr engine i think its called a k sireis engine but not shure, if you have a camera post a pick and we will be able to help you in seeing what it is! :)

At that age of LDV, I would have thought it will be the 'O' series engine.

Best way of telling, is the dizzy sticking out above No.2 sparkplug? and has very short plug leads???
