starter problem

1996 transit tdi turn the key to start, starter turns over but will not stop even when ignition is off any ideas bump starts fine and don't here anything from the starter

sounds like the starter solenoid sticking in!!

Are you saying the starter doesn't stop turning over or the van wont turn off?

cool i thought it was starter but just being lazy really instead of investigating problem thought i'd ask cos thought maybe back of ignition had turned

i think you can strip off the soleniod and clean it out! you could be 100% sure its that by un plugging the small lead off it while its doing it!
if it stops then its the ignition if it carries on then its deff. the starter sol.

yeah i did that pulled the small exciter wire off and starter carried on well i got six starters so not a problem cheers
