it can whine on for literally years! We bought a Mk2 for the huge body with a whiney diff. We ran it for a while, then the MOT was due and we didn't expect her to pass, with flying colours. We ran the van for two years before the noise got the better of us and we gave in and fitted a 2nd hand Mk3 axle. Kept the van for another two years, then sold her on up north where there are fewer cheap vans on offer.

its a very expensive job unless you are under warranty with the van ,it will cost around £400 if you can find a expert to replace the bits! :(

A word of advice with regards to the wheel bearings

Due to the design of the bearing units, they are not as simple to diagnose as those fitted to the 95--> shape Transit.

Transit 2000 has a unit where both the bearings are in close proximity, some have been known to be noisey in a straight line.

if it is the diff, you'll get away with pinion and side bearings, book time was around 3.9hours

:D
