smoking 2.5 tranny

Postby fingers » Thu Apr 06, 2006 3:50 pm

:D Hi Guys,
I have a 1990 2.5 diesel transit that blows out white smoke constantly,it has failed an emmision test for its m.o.t.Last year a mate of mine fitted another injector pump for me and it has smoked ever since,if i crack open number 3 injector whilst putting revs on the smoke clears so i changed that injector but still no joy.I know the injectors are colour coded so i put the same coloured injector in.Has anyone got a clue what it could be.I went to lucas and told them about it and they didnt want to know because someone had fitted this other injector pump. How can i tell if this pump is compatible with my engine because my so called mate may have fitted the wrong one. Thanks a lot fellas and please somebody help me. :? fingers

:D Hi Jay,
Water is fine, dont have to top up much at all and there is plenty of fuel at number 3 injector maybe even too much, someone told me white smoke is a sign of unburnt fuel thanks Jay,Fingers

try some ptfe tape on the injector unions it will help a bit :)
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

That's really a last resort though and should only really be used once you found where the fault is!

I would change the fuel filter, Its possible water has collected , it doesnt take alot , If their is a drain turny thing on the bottom of filter bowl then undo it ( after leaving the van still and switched of for a couple of ours , to allow the water to seperate to the bottom of the bowl.) and just drain a quarter of the filter bowl out into a cup, the water will probably be visible.
