Fan - belt

Hello
Van is T90 - 350 - 2.4 - 02 plate - 111k - LWB

Got up today - went to start van to do a collection - apart from it not starting despite a new battery cos I haven't run it since friday afternoon,it was squealing like a stuck pig - so I flipped the lid to investigate.Couldn't work out what the prob was.I sprayed some lubricant onto the drive belt and it stopped squealing, then it started rattling agian which sounded like bearings rattling some where near the water pump;so I took it to the garage where I regularly go and left it for them to sort. They took off the belt and checked all the stuff that revolves, alternator, pas pump, water pump all the pulleys etc , no probs. They put a new belt on and it seems to have cured it.

Does this sound familiar to anyone - had a look at the old belt - didn't seem cracked or dropping to pieces - but there seem to be some miniscule pieces of metal in the grooves

Cheers

Hows the V-Belt going to grip if its oiled? It relies on the v shape for a friction grip to move the pulleys.
I was always taught its critical to keep belts oil/grease free.

Could it be the cam belt tensioner bearing? Mine was on it's way out, and I thought it was the fan belt.
