Postby monkey » Fri Apr 21, 2006 10:22 am

anyone have any idea where to find the splitter switch for the batteries?
i'm told that this device should isolate the main battery when the engine isn't runninig so i can start it when i've had the internal light on all night. is this correct? its a 92 lwb, high top

Its a split charge relay, it is not fitted as standard, if you have a twin battery set-up you almost certainly have a split charge relay, but as an aftermarket item it could be anywhere.
Start by following the alternator wiring , red first .. somewhere probably under the dash you'll find a joined wire, follow that to a 'black-box' and that will (probably) be the split carge relay.

Having twin batterys doesn't always meaning a split charging relay.

I can confirm that, as I have twins (batteries that is) and they work as one :D

It's a standard fitment on an Auto smiley :D :D

What you describe sounds more like a battery guard system.

That had a rocker switch fitted to the dash in the area around the steering wheel, when it sensed the voltage was getting close to a preset point where the engine will not start, a relay disconnected the main battery lead.

A quick press of the switch reclosed the system allowing the vehicle to start.

It was never a standard feature, but was widely adopted by many fleets.
