replacing the discs on a current shape transit is a different job to that of the older shapes.

The current vehicle needs the front wheel bearings to be removed with the hub and disc in order to remove the disc.

It's not the disc retaining bolts that people have trouble with, it's getting the bearing assembly out of it's carrier thats difficult.

best stuff i found was similar to wd40 but was made by repsol worked a treat cheaper than wd too but no where sells it :(
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

front discs

Postby paj » Mon Apr 24, 2006 7:38 pm

didnt have time to check discs over weekend, setting off to work this morning and found i have lost some pressure on the braking system so i thought maybe a leak, checked all round no leaks anywhere, just had front wheels off and found the problem, the vented part of the disc on drivers side has corroded causing movement in either side of disc. couple of questions ..should i change bearings regardless..why the loss of pressure?

you mean the vent ribs have corroded to the extent of breaking away?

Thats a dangerous situation to be in

Your braking pressure loss could have been for a couple of reasons, if the disc's strength has been reduced you might actually be compressing the 2 faces together and gaining a longer pedal travel. Or the distortion could be pushing the pads away from the disc and your having to push them back out.

Old transits had a decent wheel bearing set up, re grease them and put them back :D

I always thought wd40 is a thin lubricating oil? were as plus gas is a penetrating oil. Plus gas also has a chemical reaction with rust which helps with removal.

WD in WD40 means water displacement.
