Huge loss Of Power

Postby jonb1kenobi » Wed Apr 26, 2006 11:40 pm

Hi All, I'm hope someone can help. I have a 1998 Transit. Last week after a 30 mile trip my transit started to loose power and I was struggling to get it to 30mph ! Eventually i pulled into a layby and thats was it, I couldnt re-start it !

Out came the AA who sprayed a little carb cleaner here and there and bam, problem sorted. The AA guy couldt tell me what caused it, and never encounted a problem like it. (he thought I had put Unleaded in instead of derv at first!)

Its been fine until today when again I did about 30-40 miles and I just managed to limp home, having the same power loss.

Any one got any ideas as to the problem?
Thanks
JOn

What engine do you have?
Is it turbo diesel? If so it sounds like an engine management problem.

It's diesel Mark as he said they thought he had put Petrol in instead of Diesel.

Carb cleaner? Where would you put that in a diesel?

Its a 2.5 turbo diesel. The AA guy said Carb spray was much better than easy start, and yes he sprayed a little in the air intake.

I've had it out today and it seems a little better, it dosn't like 5th gear much. Looks like a trip to the garage after Bank Holiday.

Ah, turbo engine!
Does it show engine mangement problems?
Is the engine mangement light working? It's a red light, picture of an engine, on the lower left of the dash.
