problem with 2 ltr dohc engine

Postby mjw1208 » Thu May 18, 2006 12:49 pm

hope somebody can help with this problem- have got 1997 Transit fitted with a 2ltr dohc engine (usually goes like rocket) 80mph+ and 30mpg ,however one day it seemed to lose power and top speed about 25mph,took it to a local mechanic who found two small bore rubber pipes had come off unit above exhaust manifold reconnected these but power still poor ,he tried few things but generally is stuck says egr valve seems ok ,any suggestions of help would be appreciated ,
can the egr valve and associated parts be removed and will it make any diff to exhaust emissions ?
having spent near £400 on it recently and taxed it don't want to sent it to it's grave yet ,
Any suggestions would be much appreciated thanks

:? mate the problem with everything now is to many eletrics :? the only thing you can do is take it to fords to have it pluged in and then this will tell you what is wrong! otherwise you could change allsorts of bits and never get anywere! :?

Your local auto electrician or even some local garages should be able to run a diagnostic for you as your van has the same socket as the Granada 2lDOhC, if it were diesel you would struggle but you shouldnt with a petrol one.

most independant garages will be able to scan this for - EECV complies with EOBD so most places should have the kit - if you want to confirm a blocked exhaust remove the oxygen sensor and run the engine - if it now revs cleanly the exhaust is blocked - it will be very noisey with the O sensor removed so don't scare the neighbours

good luck

Cat failure would be the first thing to look for as it does indeed sound like the resultant back pressure has blown the hose of the DPFE sensor
