washer electrical prob ?

hi ive a 02 2 ltr diesel transit , when i bought it someone had put a seperate button for the screen washer i checked the fuse and it was blown so i put a new one in and wired it back to normal and everything was fine for months ! but -- the other day washer was not working just thought it was the cold but today i warmed it all up and the washer pump was not working ithink its burnt out ! upon putting a tester on the wires it was showing 12v even when the button was not pressed ??????????????????? so i took the switch gear off and sprayed wd40 on it now all sorts of funny things are happening reverse lights are on ! the side lights are on when the light switch is in off position !! and now the right hand indicator is on all the time ??? can anyone help please ??

i think you get a 12v feed and the switch switches the earth, unless you were testing across the earth wire and live wire going to pump then in that case the relays possibly stuck on and burnt motor out
or if earth is not present atthe washer pump plug when pressing washer button, then it could be the relay also.

ok thanks where is the relay ? and which one ? lol and why after spraying wd on the switchgear and plug on the steering race does everything light up and go crazy ? cheers neil

cos wd40 conducts electricity, you need something that evaporates to clean connections.

oh rite well ive took the switch apart and gave it a good wipe out so just in fron of fan heater now so will try it in morning and see what happens thankyou mate

still the same ! got a new one from scrap yard and fuses keep blowing but is is exactly the same one !!! now only have left hand indicator working and right one ticks but bulbs arnt lighting up ????
