Fanbelt meltdown (almost)

Postby Fagin » Sat Jan 02, 2010 6:31 pm

I have just noticed that my fanbelt is not in a very healthy condition, i.e it is partially stripped on the grooves. I have reserved a new one, but have to travel approx 15 miles to collect it.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible or advisible with the belt in this condition and if it should snap or come off will it result in damage to anything else, and will it still be driveable for short distance. Please excuse my ignorance and would be grateful for any advice.

If it's just the ribs that have come off it'll be fine, it can't throw off..

yep it is just sections of the ribs that have stripped, the main body of the belt is fine, i reckon it should be ok, but just wanted to confirm.

take the right tools with you to remove your old one(13mm spanner I think on most)and lever if you dont have a threaded tensioner...when u get there easy to fit in 2 mins and if it does snap on route you can still get there if its not far away..
