COOLANT

Postby marshyboy » Tue Jan 05, 2010 9:31 pm

hi all whilst checking the coolant levels today and having to top them up about a litre and half of anti freeze i went and picked her indoors up to give it a run and re check the fluid i noticed that the anti freeze had not circulated as it was still neat in the tank so after starting it up to see if it was coming through the return and back into the tank i noticed it was not and the engine was at its normal running temp is this normal or am i needing a water pump?she is a 51 plate dura torq 2.5

Could be with this cold weather that your interior heater (assuming its on full heat) is sufficient to keep the engine at near running temp without opening the stat to circulate the coolant through the rad. Take it on another run, when it reaches running temp set the heater to cold but watch the temp gauge. IF it starts to overheat your thermostat is stuck closed which may explain the topping up of 1.5 litres
