No Heating

Postby kokko » Thu Jan 07, 2010 1:33 am

I have a 1998 80S swb transit. recently after having a new waterpump fitted i have lost all heating (not good as its -5 outside) The fans are blowing but no heat coming out. About 50% of the radiator is getting really hot. The heat control dial moves but I dont know if it is jammed to cold inside the engine - I have no idea how/where to check or if it is something else. Any help appreciated.

It went just before the pump went. Garage said it was prob due to lack of pump pressure. Took it back to garage who have removed all the air locks and have said that the Matrix unit is getting hot so am now unsure. They have also said that the cable from the heater dial is moving and pulling on a lever ok. Sorry i'm not mechanical! I think they said there was somesort of valve thing behind the matrix that allowed air to be blown through it that draws up the heat. I've looked in a Haynes book but it not that clear. Is there a "Transit for Dummies" book or site?

your on the site lol

the heater has a flap that lets it heat the air inside without using cold air from out side so the fan warms the cab quicker
they may have been talking about that
or
there is a valve that the temp control knob moves that allows more or less water through to adjust the temperature from the heater

it may be worth having them back flush the heater ( run water from a hose through the 2 pipes to the heater to clean out any sludge stopping water flow through the matrix ) and see if this cures it

run the engine up to temp then with the bonett open there are 2 pipes on the bulkhead heading in to the cab area chack that both of these are getting hot , if so then the matrix is clear and the problem is in your heater box
hope this helps
