help to swap ignition switch

Postby dudsy » Sat Jan 09, 2010 2:27 pm

i've got a N reg tranny tipper crew cab and the ingition will no longer turn enough to start it.
now this has been getting worse for a long time. the key is smooth.
I have bought a lock pack from hendy ford and changed the locks but do not want to attempt the ignition lock until some one can run me through it.
I understand that there is a routine and a sequence of key turns ect.
i dont have the original red key for the truck if that makes any differance.
any help would be very much appreciated

You can`t change ignition barrel without re-coding the immobiliser system to the new key/lockset.
The ignition would turn but van won`t start as chip in key won`t match i.d. stored in immobiliser module.
This can`t be done manually by any key sequence, needs to go on diagnostic machine i`m afraid.

To get van running to take it to be "sorted" as a temporary measure,
Remove black ring round barrel (1 screw) put worn key in ignition & turn to position 1 to press release pin thru hole in top of lock housing.
Barrel will then pull out on key,put new key into new barrel position 1 & shove it into steering lock housing

New key should know turn ignition,in order for van to start leave black ring off /loose & position (original coded) key thru centre of ring while starting van with new key.

i thought you could tape the old key to the inside of the shroud and the induction loop will pick it up as if it was in the ignition

thanks frag, I thought that would be the case but ever hopfull that some one would know a way round these things.
trouble is my other van is frozen solid, this van never lets me down(til now) but i need to be on the road so this temp measure could end up being a little permanent till i can get the other thing sorted.
thanks

well done Baz,
got it sorted this morning only took me 2 hours stood in the snow.
had to drill out the old barrel as i could not turn the bloody key to line the pin.
taped the key inside the loop and tucked it under the dash. sorted.
thanks for the tip :D
