leaf spring snapped

i smelt a burning rubber smell today .was only the leaf spring snapped and rubbing on the inner wall of tyre .is it legall for me to take the leaf apart and repair it by welding it back together? transit 190 tipper p reg

dont know if its legal but from the MOT testers manual

reason for failure
a. a cracked or fractured leaf, or one which has been repaired by welding or is permanently distorted due to damage or so deteriorated that it is seriously weakened.

personally i wouldnt do it as they are shaped and formed to do a specific job, its not like plating over a hole

would need welding with high carbon steel filler and then would need hardening and tempering , cheaper to go get a second hand one ,

if not welded with right stuff and then heat treated it will fold under load ,
