Orange light..Final hurdle..?

Postby eurorep » Mon Jan 25, 2010 2:50 pm

Hello all..After a lengthy job replacing head gasket set, new push rods and cam belt, the beast finally kicked over. Cough, cough but it went...Took it for a run of about 10 miles ,seemed ok. Started fine this morning and while i was shovelling away the snow a great big cloud of smokey white came out the exhaust, obliterating the van. In panic i switched off and had a cup of tea and a think. As this is the first deisel i have owned, i didn,t expect to be an expert. I was politely told on here that the orange light i was showing was water in the filter. OK, so i drain the filter...light still on. Took it for a spin...no white cloud. I then put on a new filter( remembering to fill with fuel first) Light still on but runs ok..So any suggestions how to get over this final hurdle would be welcome...Thanks all... :?

Check the wiring from the sensor on the bottom of the filter for damage.

Plus it's easier if you reply to one of the original threads.

if you have put a new filter on, then just pull wires off.

Thanks ..the light i,m getting is orange in the bottom left of the instrument panel. The van is 80 swb...99 2.5, none turbo. After taking off the old filter and replacing, neither had a connection for a sensor, just the drain off screw on the bottom... :?

The wires are probably tucked down the side of the engine then and have rubbed through.

Hello PSV.......no, not left hand drive, i bought this van december in Cambridge, drove here fine then the cam belt did its worst..! So...just been on the autobahn..ran ok, no smoke, no steam..80 MPH. The orange light is still on so i,m thinking as you that the sensor plug that in the loom is clogged with ice or water. It was below freezing here last night and still 8 inches of snow about to freeze again. I,m thinking that although i dont have the fuel filter with sensor, the loom is such that it is there if you did have that kind of fuel filter.??

OK,,,,,,pic in the morning. now i,m not saying this is a good idea but,,,why dont i just cut the sensor connection that would go to the fuel filter.? its just hanging in the air doing sweet FA. Since i got the van its always been like that, only gave me concerns after the big repair, head set, push rods, cam belt. When i replaced the radiator i topped up the expansion tank and could well have splashed some water onto this plug. SO..tempted to just cut the plug and what ever wires are there i,ll just blank each one off individually. :D
