no gears/clutch

my transit had no pressure on the clutchand so could not get any gear this just went on weds, 22nd january this week no problems before this just started to turn right and could not get any gear ,eventually managed to get some pressure on clutch and got first gear.
i bought the van new in sept 05 she has 48,000 miles on clock and not been hammered.
been told it is the slave cylinder in gearbox and it will be expensive [of course]
is this a problem on the mk 6 model[think she is a mark 6],

im not sure if its a common fault on the transit but im aware that is just one of those things that goes from my experience with cars, if its gone you will usually have no clutch fluid in the res?
