Cylinder block drain plug

Postby mike206sp » Thu Jan 28, 2010 5:28 pm

Where is it and what does it look like???

Iv'e been having a root around under the bonnet as I intend to carry out a mini service tomorow before I start the 9 hour drive to Kent on sunday and noticed the coolant looks a funny shade of brown. So flushing out the coolant system is on the cards aswell and replacing it with the proper pink stuff.

I cant seem to find the cylinder block drain plug though. HELP!

Shes a mk5 2.5 non turbo.

cheers

Mike

Will that drain the whole system??? Is it best to flush it though with just a hose or should I use an additive aswell???

iirc, its a wee hex(?) plug on the block under/forward of the exhaust manifold, doesn't look like much..

OK,I drained the system, filled it up nice and slowly with some rad flush, ran it around 20 miles, drained the system again and when I started to flush it through water started p**sing out from around the water pump area and dripping off the sump. I managed to get it filled with coolant and tried running it. The pump is circulating the coolant and everything is getting warm but it does sound a tad noisier than norm.

Is it a seal or something round the pump thats the problem??? or is the pump on its way out???
