Water in fuel tank

Postby rof18 » Sat Jan 30, 2010 10:41 pm

I Have a transit trend 08 plate which has just returned from the dealership workshop where i was told that the red light which kept coming on with water in the fuel was caused by driving through water. One of the mechanics let slip that ther was a problem with the breather pipe for the tank and this caused the water to get into the tank when driving in wet conditions. Ford don't accept that there is a problem with this, so i'm wondering if any other person has had this trouble with their transits especially the newer models

Any diesel tank will end up with water in it from condensation on the inside of the tank, thats why the filter acts as a water trap

I accept that there is condensation inside the tank and that the filter acts as a trap.
The problem is i'm having to empty the trap every 3-4 weeks which i would say isn't condensation' I'm told by the dealership it was caused by going through water as I live in scotland the majority of time is driving in wet contitions so surely I shouldn't need to drain the water every 3-4 weeks there must be some problem somewhere to let so much water in. I have other diesel motors which have had no problems so it isn't where we get the fuel from as we get it at the same place all the time.
