Ford Transit 2004 2.4 Duratorq 125bhp batt light on

Postby KevB » Wed Feb 10, 2010 9:33 pm

Hi there,

I operate two transits for my business and both have niggling problems that I just can't get to the bottom of, therefore my recent registration to this forum!
The first is on a 2004 2.4 125bhp duratorq engine. For the past month or so the battery light has remained constantly on. I've done the voltage checks with a voltmeter and checked these against what the Haynes manual says and both the battery and alternator appear to be ok. The engine turns over ok and everything works ok even in this weather when lights and heater blower are working overtime. Someone said it could be the earth wire fom the back of the alternator but I've disconnected this, checked it for corrosion, squirted it with WD40 but to no avail. I've also done the "press tripometer in and hold for 5 seconds whilst at the same time turning the ignition on" test. I get the message "grge" which I can't find anywhere on the net but I can only assume means garage. NOT IF I CAN HELP IT! Can anyone help? Thanks

I would start by checking the wiring to the alternator

Sorry for the delay in replying MinorMatt.
Will hopefully check the wiring this weekend if it's not too cold or the missus does'nt want to go shopping or the kids don't want to go out somewhere. . . . . . . . . . . . . Looks like I'll have to put it off 'til next week then!!
Will keep you posted. Cheers.
