1996 p reg automatic transit

Hello all.
I am from Ireland and new to this great site. I sold my 95 transit today and I am hoping to buy a 96 uk reg(p) Ive spotted over here. ITS a longwheelbase high top which I hope to convert into a camper, Only thing is its automatic, Never came across an auto transit in Ireland. whats everyones verdict on an auto transit?
Its been parked up a while but im not too bothered by that as I like a challenge.

AndyG is your man, but the A4LD box are very reliable if looked after, oil levels etc. Can wait to go auto myself

Check the oil is a cherry red and not a burnt smelly brown colour

Check the level while it's hot and running and immediately after selecting all the positions on the selector 3 times, ending in "P" park

While hot, check that reverse engages cleanly and there's no judder when moving backwards

Check overdrive works when hot
Find a hill on an A road or motorway and check it doesn't slip (engine revving but van not corresponding)

Check for leaks

That's about it on the transmission side

Then you have the EPIC do check out
Engine check light should remain off throughout your test drive

The rest is normal, so it's really only the rust

I am thinking of changing the oil straight away, could have a problem getting a filter for it here. I will carry out all those checks mentioned above, cheers for the info. Will let ye know how I get on. It will be next Saturday before I go for it.

a4ld auto
it a dream 2 drive
had a prob with cluch bands but did the adjusters now fine
also got a leak some where
but ant bothered
just keep an i on it
done 1500 - 2000 miles round ireland on holls last sep
running on bio diesel no probs
carry out all those checks mentioned above
