gear stick problem please help

Postby rockyfosgate » Thu Feb 25, 2010 1:50 pm

hello everyone i am new to this forum,
i have just resantly bought a 51 plate swb 75ps van, the van drive fine and goes in all the gears very smoothly, but the gear stick does seem to be quite loose and sometimes will jump out of 1st gear when i pull away. it just seems that the gear stick needs tightning some how to stop this. if you hold it then pull away everything is fine.
anyone got any ideas as to what it is?? im thinking maybe gear selector?
any help would be much appreciated.

i can now add to this as i have had the gear selector out today.
everything seems nice and tight on the selector, which now leads me to believe its something to with the cable/s or some kind of linkage under the van?????
anyone any ideas?
thanks.

Hi Gary,
gear selector is realy quite simple to remove. What you are looking for when it is removed is any looseness on any of the moving parts and the common one is a loose 10mm bolt half way down the selector shaft.
The only real diffilculty is space it's not that easy to get too, and also when it's out be very careful not to drop anything down into the gearbox.
Hope this helps and good luck.

if its jumping out of 1st it may have had the grey cable adjusted too much, basically the cable needs to be shortend from adjuster directly below gear stick in the access box. only 1mm at a time adjustment is needed.
