2L petrol oil pressure issues

Postby clivee » Thu Feb 25, 2010 7:00 am

hello,

just joined the forum hoping for some guidance relating to a recently purchased 97 2L transit. it suffers from a little tappet noise, and as there was no improvement after an oil and filter change, i went hunting, and found that someone had removed the oil pressure warning light. i refitted this and have found that the light flickers at low idle.

i read somewhere that these engines can suffer from a loose oil pressure relief valve. is this true? if so, where is the valve located?

are there any other possible causes for slightly low oil pressure?

tappet noise aside, the engine feels healthy, with no knocks, etc. it has covered 150,000km.

any comments much appreciated

cheers

Never had a relief valve loose, it's spring loaded and in theory cannot fall out!, but the hex drive for the oil pump can wear? (or the bottom of the distributor, as it's this what drives the pump).... 1st off, just try another switch, these can get sticky! What oil did you use??

hi, thanks for the comments... yes, its a DOHC 8 valve... apparently the valve works loose but is held in place by the timing cover so you only lose 10psi or so?
