key programme worries for my 2001 2.0 75 fwd

Postby derekneave » Mon Mar 01, 2010 12:01 am

howdy all.ive recently bought my transit.the down side was it only came with 1 key(the one with the blue bit on top of the key) and the remote keyfob which works fine. the key and locks are severly worn to the point you can hardly use them. ive got a full new lockset(genuine ford) which i plan to fit this week. i am just wondering if it is a straight swap or will i have to get the key programmed???? many thanks D :?:

90% of the time its just a new key required to sort out dodgy locks, bonnet lock, fuel cap and ignition.
if the fobs working you wont need the drivers door lock :?:

ive had 4 new keys cut on my van in 6 years.

the new keys wont work with the immobilisor unless you get them coded to it..there is a bit of a cheat..remove the immobilisor pick up aerial under the steering coloumn and tie wrap you old key to it and leave the lot under the coloumn..the immobilisor will then not work but at least you got keys which all work..I would then fit a aftermarket immobilisor or get 1 fitted if you dont know electrics.

the new keys will need programmed, its 1 hours labour at your local dealer, cheaper than gettin another immobiliser fitted

or even easy, get one of thesehttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-MONDEO-FOCUS ... 563a1bca11

they split like this,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Remote-Key-F ... 483999a4f2

you can get your own glass transponder out of your original key if yoy carefully cut the top of the couloured dot away, then it simply goes into the new key fob easy enough.
all thats needed the new key blade cutting which should cost next to nothing.

also if you have 2 keys with transponders in. you can actually clone transponders your self using the ignition.
