Mk6 FWD noisy engine steady/mount?

Postby Ollie » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:53 pm

2.0 tddi FWD.
There is a loud clicking noise whenever you stop engine and whenever you make the engine rock about, like when changing direction or powering on and off sharply. It first did this getting on for a year ago and I couldn't find any play in anything, so just ignored it. about 3 months ago decided that whilst there was no play, the noise definately appeared to be coming from the lower engine steady bar, so i fitted a new one form Ford and it went silent which was good!
However the noise is back!! is there some magic trick to how these fit? or some design "feature " which allows internal parts of the bar to contact one another? At £50 I'm not so keen on just trying another one!

Many thanks in advance

with it being left for so long it may have caused damage to driveshafts, or shaft bearing clamp, or could just have come loose, the favourite is the front boltr that goes into gearbox, stripps the threads and you have to put a long bolt and nut through it all.
