Engine malfunction warning

Hi all.
I recently bought my first transit a 56 reg swb glx in magnum grey. I love the van but have had the "engine malfunction warning" flash up occasionally. It doesnt seem to effect the running and goes out if you open a door or restart the engine. It also seems to idle erratically at times. I took it to the ford stealers and they changed the egr valve for 300quid and it doesnt seem to of made any difference. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Did they update the PCM software? This usually cures erratic idle

I would guess not as they didnt say they had. what sort of figure would i be looking at to do this and is this something i could only get done at the ford dealer? cheers.

Yes Ford dealer only and they will probably charge you one hours labour
