Bearings inside gearbox casing? fwd T280 Mk6

Postby murray280 » Wed Mar 03, 2010 11:02 pm

Hi folks newbie here.Had look on search cant find any info.Got Fwd 02 280 t100 with problem on front passenger drive. There is play where the driveshaft enters the gearbox.im guessin there is a bearing inside the gearbox housing which needs replacing. The thing that brought this to my attention was a thuding noise between 30-55 mph.originally i guessed was cv joint, sure enough it had a hole in cv boot where last crowbar mechanic put a screwdriver through it most likely tryin to put drive into gearbox.iv not taken drive shaft out yet but there is definately play where the shaft enters gearbox.Has any1 changed these bearings before or had same problem?if the bearings inside need replaced do i need to remove gearbox from van.Any info or help would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers

There's always some play here. If it's not leaking gearbox oil it's unlikely to be the problem. The hole in your d/s boot indicates it's probably as you first thought.
