manifold question

Postby simgy » Tue Jun 14, 2005 12:20 pm

hi all when fitting a mk3 pinto into my mk2 i used my old manifold as the mk3 is a bit to big to fit the downpipe onto.on returning from the first test run (2 mile) the manifold was starting to glow red hot.now the engine was buggered (knocking cam) and having now fitted a different engine am wondering if i should use the mk3 manifold and get a mkk 3 downpipe,or was the knackered engine making it overheat? can u use a mk2 manifold and exhaust on a mk3 engine?

 thats a strange one!!
i cant see any reason the mk2 manifold caused the problem - i'd assume the knackered engine was at fault!!

luke you might be right it certainly looks more efficient.also the flange is slightly bigger and the downpipe is a different shape so just hope its all gonna fit :!:

if you can use the mk3 type then its a bonus but mk2 wouldnt make any difrence ,a manifold would not cause the engine to go wrong! :D

engine was already shafted when i got it mark just wondered if the manifold was glowing red due to over restricting the exhaust gases or if the knackered engine was doing it
:?

You have to use the Mk3 manifold and downpipe if you are fitting an MT75 5 speed, so it won't make any difference to the engine. The manifold and downpipe off the Mk2 4 speed doesn't get round the bigger 5 speed box.

I think so, but no too sure as it's a long time since we did a gearbox swap. To be honest we usually swap the whole exaust and save any good bits for the others.
