02 clutch/gearbox problem

Hi, I've just bought a 2002, 2litre, fwd transit (ex BT) and after an hours drive it wouldn't go into any gear, came back and went a few minutes later, then third time, the clutch pedal went all spongey!! Had it towed back to garage but they say it's driving fine and can't find anything wrong with it. Any ideas, HELP;-) please...
