Brake Shudder

I have a 2004 twin wheel minibus that has a serious brake shudder from the o/s/r.
We have fitted new drums, shoes back plates and cables.
The garage has changed the hubs and halfshafts onto the n/s and the shudder still stays at the o/s/r.
Any suggestions?

Does it only shudder when braking, or is it there all the time?

If its there all the time, check tyre, wheel, alignment etc, bearing, see if anything is damaged, check that the wheel spins true as well.

check suspension for correct operation,check mountings,leafs,bushes,shocks,,seems if you have fitted new brakes and swapped things about something not right on suspension side if things

I had brake judder on a single wheel 350, I put a new wheel on and the judder stoped, I then put the old wheel back on which was runing true snd it started again yet there was nothing at all that could be seen wrong with the old wheel,

Got the same problem a bit with my MK5. Had to replace the handbrake cable, so took opportunity to pressure wash the wheels and blew out brake shoe dust with air. Put it all back together and now the brake pedal rides up on down under applied pressure and the brakes judder. Usually its dirt in the drums but this is clean as a whistle. Only thing I can think of is I mixed up the brake drums each side and didn't put them on their original hubs.

theres a good chance that you have a warped disc problem, I can feel it under braking, I can also feel the pedal pulsating whilst braking and a lot of vibration, mine is defo warped discs, possibly you have the same thing as me, Steve

One of the drums was a bit oval if that makes sense, but I figured as it didn't do anything before...discs are fine.

We have changed tyres and wheel rims, drums have been changed twice suspension has all been checked (bus gets 6 week checks) and was at VOSA for a test which it passed.
This has been an ongoing problem for over a year it is definately from the rear as if you are driving and pull the handbrake on one click the bus just about shakes to death.
Local dealer wants to fit a complete axle at a price of over 2 grand.

I have exactly the same symptoms as you on my bus. I suspected warped discs, but was assured by previous owner and a mechanic that took a look at it that the discs and pads were new. Why would they be warped already in the space of just a few months and very little use?

alex... did mechanic put a dti on disc to see if there running out as the recommended disc run out is only .004" and you wouldnt see that by looking at it

I don't know what that means, sorry. Is it a measuring device for the thickness of the discs?

d.t.i dial test indicater ..basicly a clock they use in engineering, fixed by clamp or magnetic base,to check run out
will see if i can rig one up and take photo for you
