T190 belching white smoke

Postby tranvan » Mon Apr 12, 2010 3:57 pm

Hi
I'm a newbee here and would welcome some advice on my '98 T190 crew cab (134000 miles).
On route to Southampton recently the engine seemed to suddently lose a little power
and started to pump out white smoke.
Got there ok but after returning 2 days later,it turned over ok but no start.
AA guy managed to get it going with 'Easy start' and he also drained some water from the
fuel filter (light had been coming on from time to time).
Revving the engine, there was a lot of white smoke and the AA chap called a lorry.
I now have the van back home and again it won't start.
Doesn't seem to be using oil and no evidence of water in the oil.
I do most of my own routine sevicing. Is there anything I can check myself
before taking the van to a specialist?
Any help appreciated.
