engine rough running,

hello, can some one give me some advice on the running of my transit, its 2.5 non turbo diesel w, reg 2000, smiley front, it been one owner from new, 98,000 on the clock, im the second owner' and my trouble is with it, that it runs fine around town starts first time every morning, no problems, its just when im on the main roads or motor way at 60 mph or more' the it cuts out on one cylinder, and runs very rough, then it will cut back in again and run fine, this may happen once on a trip or a few times, but all ways returns to running all ok again,when i bought it it was low on fuel so fiilled it up and it did it once on the way home, and it done it another time when i filled up again, im was wondering if may be muck in the tank it had a full service belts filters etc, with in the last 500 miles, some one suggested it might be a injector, but i dont want to buy four new ones if its not this as the are expensive from fords , can any one help please, rgds mike

The symptoms you are are having on your Ford Transit 2.5 diesel W reg does point heavily to a faulty diesel injector.

There are about four different types of Stanadyne injector that could be in your vehicle. We at P.F.Jones Diesel Services sell them brand new, original Stanadyne, ranging from £30-£60 + vat. P.F.Jones can test this type of injector for you free of charge so you wouldn't be throwing away money!

We would test the injector for you and if faulty we would be able to supply a brand new injector at the best price around.

dont do that mine cost me £2.50 . just do the mod on the fuel run off on the injectors

10 years ago my works 2.5di smiley used to do this. 1 minute 70mph cruising happy, next 30mph maximum and bloody dangerous on a motorway

we were told theres a governer on the rear of the inj pump, the thing wears/sticks/fails and causes thi sproblem

Hi, Look at the top of your injectors. number one injector at front of engine, number four at back of engine. Between each injector is a small lngth of fuel pipe that lets eccess diesl run back into the system. look at number one and number four injectors. if number one has one nipple blanked off and number four has a pipe runing to and joining a pipe that laeds to the fuel filter on th bulkhead then you will need to do a small modification, which involves buying a length of pipe long enough to run from the bulkhead round to number one injector. take the blank off number one injector and take the pipe off number four injector, put your new piece of pipe from the fuel filter conection on the bulkhead to number one injector and put the blank on number four injector and that is what the mod is. be careful because the little nipples on the injectors are plastic and can snap off easily. dont ask me why this works but it worked on mine. apparently this was a fault in production by ford and a reason for recall but a lot of transits slipped through the net . good look, hope this solves your problem
