cooling prob

Postby paul carps » Sun Feb 28, 2010 12:16 am

hi can anyone help me whilst driving today i noticed my temp gauge was reading zero. i checked my water level which was ok. as i was driving my light for the glow plugs was flashing on and off and i lost power, so i pulled into a layby and turned my engine off. i restarted it after about ten mins and the temp gauge went to norm position but as i carried on driving the temp gauge went back to zero. any ideas what the prob could be.
cheers paul

most likely the coolant temperature sensor located in cylinder head (behind pulley on right hand side of engine) try unplugging to se if there is any difference but you will still get glow plug light flashing and low power as it is in limp mode

I have a similar problem with my 02 plate 2.5d transit. No problems with temperature gauge, water level etc but a few times in the last couple of months I have lost a bit of power, maybe 15%, and the heating coil warning light has came on flashing.

Pulling in and switching off the engine for a few minutes does the trick and everything goes well again. Due a service and mot in a month but wondered if anyone has experienced the same or can shed some light on the problem.

Don't want to run it and do damage but because it seems ok I was going to chance it for the month. Usually do 100 - 200 mile runs and was waiting for the holidays and annual service.

Thanks
