the story of how my transit died this morning

Postby r40pmd » Sat Apr 24, 2010 3:52 pm

Hi i went two work this morning in my transit jumbo its on a 55 plate, the starter motor had been messing me about abit for before that on the odd ocasion, givin me click , but all ways starting on the second atempt. But this morning on start up when i turned the key, the starter motor when round like a dremmel. on turning the ignition off the dashboard lights and the spinng starter stayed on. on turning the key to on and off several times the lights in the dashboard flashed and then i ended up with nothing, not even the digital clock is lit. using a bulb holder and two pieces of wire and a bulb, putting one side of the wire on the plus side of the battery and the other on the negative, found the battery was still alive. however when i connected the plus side of the bulb to the positive terminal next to the fuse box under the bonnet, and earthed the other side the the engine block there was no power. after that i put one side of the bulb to the negative terminal of the battery and the other to the chassis the bulb lit. is there anybody who can tell me what may have happened and why i have no power at all. thanks

Sounds like you have blown a main fuse from the battery

Under the drivers seat with the battery.
Its the main earth lead from battery terminal to a mount on the floor behind battery. has a built in fuse
