pulling my hair out pls help me!! :(

Postby dinod » Tue May 18, 2010 12:22 am

hiya guys, i new here so please take it easy on me (pls just this once....lol)

ok here is my problem

I have a transit(2001) 350 double cabin LWB recovery truck twin wheeler, when loading a car the rear-end just drops to the ground

I would like to add a extra leaf to the springs, currently have 3 leaf spring

now the problem is i dont know how to do this (got good mechanical knowledge)
i can get a 4th leaf from the breakers but what length does this leaf have to be when installing it?
what position does this sit in on the 4 leafs i.e 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th

I can get extended u-bolts, i can drill the leaf to do the install

any video, pictures or a idiots guide would be great help

I dont mind the uncomfortable ride, or the rear end in the air.

please help me sort this major headache

What size cars are you carrying? Probably wont matter how many springs you add if it's over weight.

A zafira would have taken you overweight gross let alone overweight on the rear axle..even the beatle would take the rear end overweight,
Double cab really dont help either..If you do put rear spings on it will look better but still be overweight.what does the transit weight empty??

suggest you go to a weigh bridge and get it weighed so you no what you can carry no good estimating when vosa pull you over to give you a nice big fine, then go thru your van with a fine tooth combe
have a look at bellys thred hes just put up rated leafs on one of his vans, dosnt let you carry more just it will carry it better

Personally i wouldnt bother with the extra leaf as most vehicles will put you overweight! Do you have a steel bed? If so look into replacng it with an alloy bed as it will knock off a bit of weight, also just have the two ramps each side to also keep the weight down! For the cost of changing the bed it will be a lot less than the fine and loss of vehicle should those VOSA men stop you!!
