Oil Leak - Ford Transit 100 T280

Postby PHIL78 » Thu May 20, 2010 1:46 pm

Hi all, I'm new to the site and i was wondering if someone could guve me some help.

I've just brought a 2005 short wheel base 100 T280 Transit (2.0L) and i've found it has an oil leak but its tricky to find where its coming from.

I've jet washed my engine to clear the excess oil and then let the engine run. After 20 minute and i've noticed that the oil leak was back :x

It appears to be dripping through the gearbox where it bolts to the engine. i beleive its lecking above the gearbox and then seaping through the casting. Also i've noticed that oil was dripping somewhere above the starter motor.

I've checked the rocker cover and its not leaking from there. But i havent been able to trace the leak back.

has anyone any ideas where it could be coming from......pictures would be appricated :D

Here's some photos

There are a couple of things that can leak in your second pic.
It could be the seal behind that pulley on the cam that runs the power steering pump
Or the vac pump is around that area.
Best would be to wash it off and run it for a few mins to see if there is anything you can see. If not you may have to strip it down and investigate further...

Cant see it runiing through the bell housing to be honest. Only time i have seen oil down where it is on your first pic has been the rear crank seal..

Hope this helps but others may have a better clue..

Hi guys, i found where my oil leak is coming from. Its the cam shaft seal behind the pulley.

I've stripped it down and i'm trying to get the pulley off. The problem i've got is the bolt with the t55 torque. Is it a left of right hand thread. At present i can't get it off and bolt is getting mangled........any ideas how i can get it off
