put in a tee junction and you get air in the system

Howdy

just put in a tee off into the feed line before the lift pump.

When i cut the line, there was very little diesel coming out!

I was very surprised.

And, you've guessed it , the transit (97,2.5D) starts with a full filter and then cuts out after 30seconds.

So today I'm going through the injectors. Undo each 1/4 turn with 17mm anticlockwise, crank the engine. close that nut. 4 nuts to undo in total. They should make a crack when you undo them. Thats why its called "crack the injectors".

I also tried bleeding the feed to my Bosch pump from the filter.

Any comments, would be welcome. I'm not a mechanic but by piecing the info together,
and not being scared to have ago I learn.

Any other tips about air in the system let me know. I don't think that there is a problem with the liftpump or any other lines as the transit has been running for 5 yrs with no problems.

I have been careful to fill the diesel filter so that it does not have any air in it either.

In case people just think he's mad. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=67262

It's not called cracking the injector because it should make a cracking noise, it's called cracking because you are loosening them. You will probably need to undo them more than 1/4 of a turn. Undo do one at a time and crank it over till you get diesel out, you may only need to do 2 or 3 before it will run.

A tip, once you've filled the filter and it starts you need to give to some revs otherwise it will cut out and you end up having to bleed it.

Have you fully connected up the fuel pipe to the D2 now?

Its probably drawing air in at the tee - or if as MrMPuk says if the diesel pipe isnt connected to the heater yet it will pull it in there

sorry about the late reply

the night before i filled up the filter just so i could drive the transit into its own car port.
In which case I revved the engine fully out of it to get it started and it did.

then next morning, I've got a 17mm spanner to "crack" the injectors, but i started it anyways
so that i could refill the filter , expecting it to die on me as before.

It hasnt. Drove 4km already on it. Interesting.

Is it because I bled the feed from the transit filter to the bosh pump??

Havent connected the D2(its raining like i've never seen it) , but i notice that the inline filter to the d2 pump is over half full with lovely diesel. Looks promising. That's interesting as well, and the d2 pump has not been pumping yet.

How does diesel flow into the filter. Before you say there a air leak. Shouldn't the diesel be leaking out as well???
