Cant find the Engine number

Postby DarrenK » Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:01 pm

Hi Guys,

Hope this is in the right section?, But i've just bought a 1989 Transit Flair Auto sleeper as our first Camper Van. The trouble is the guy who owned it previously changed the engine from a Petrol to a 2.5 Diesel. But didn't notify the DVLA of the change. I spoke to them today as i want to Tax it, they were very helpful but asked that i supply them with the Engine number and write it on a form to send in, I've looked around it but cant find the number, any one know where i should look?
Many Thanks
Darren.

Hi mate,I had same problem in France, had to supply eng no to re-register over here.Ford main dealer found it but it cost me £30 !!!!Mine is a 2.5turbo and the eng no was located on block stamped offside of engine hidden by powersteering pump mounting above sump line.I am informed by a mate that if yours is a 2.5 it could be stamped on block very near to the entry hole of the dipstick.Hope this helps and good luck. The only number i have on the block is this one, 924F6015-AB near the dip stick, now looking through other questions like this on the forum its been mentioned that its a part number rather than engine number?.
I even went down to my local scrap dealer(Gona Need him lol) and they had an engine from a 97 Transit and even with it out of the van the scrappy and me could only find a simular number on the block in the same place.

hi mate the engine number on most di's is on right handside as you look at in from the front, on the raised ridge at the bottom towards the front of the engine, you made need a bit of sand paper to help make it clearer as its only lightly stamped in.

Hi,
I've just been over the whole engine, to the left, right, above and below, only numbers on the engine are 924F-6015AB. I do give up on it, but one things for sure, it isn't the same as the one i saw on a block down the scrappy today. Found this number towards the front on the left side as you look at it, same level as dipstick.

Mine is a bog standard Diesel.

What a git that was, i think i've found it after rubbing for an hour, but the numbers aren't that clear due to pitting, but got this 4DABS37741?

Does that sound about right?

Or it could be ADA8537741

Monster,

Thank god for that !!, this camper is proving to be a nightmare, and we haven't been out in her yet lol. So i can pop up to the DVLA tomorrow with the paperwork and get it officially changed, no wonder the other owner didn't mooch for it !, unless i get there and find the engine was nicked !!!!!
