veg oil

I was told my tranny (h reg) diesel can run fine on veg oil if i add £10 to £15 of diesel per tank ?? is this correct,also is it safe to do this ???

Just a quicky... My mate rang me the other day asking if I wanted some veg oil (another mate was using it in his until it got pricey (new)) I said I wasn't sure if he still was, but would ask... how much have you got? ''about 2 litres, just changed the deep fat fryer'' I kid you not!

i have run my 2.5 tranny on almost neat veg oil from time to time....the 1st was an h reg van which performed noticably better on veg...the more veg the better it ran...
my current 2000 tranny runs perfectly on veg although this one does not seem to run any differently regardless of feul...neat derv,neat veg,or any mix.
i buy mine off the shelf at tesco in trade 20 litre drums and pour it right in the tank.

A di will run on veg oil as long as its got a bosch pump as the lucas pump needs the oil in the diesel to lubricate its workings..

sorry for being dense on this subject but does this mean if i have a bosch pump and run a 50/50 mix i should be ok ???
I have read alot on this subject but the opions seem split ,some say do ,some say dont,others disagree abit the mix ratio

i used to run it neat in my mk5 only had trouble starting up in the colder months as it thickened up so 50/50 will be fine

You can run either pump on veg BUT lucas pumps are weak inside and leaving veg in there to thicken overnight (especialy a cold night) with snap the impellers off inside the pump) i've run Di s with lucas pumps on vairying mixes of veg (more veg in the summer cos they run better on it down to 80/20 in the winter) for thousands of miles without a misshap.
The ideal set up for a lucas pump is a 2 tank system that you start and finish the run on normal diesel and only use the veg oil once warmed up (both the engine and the oil ) but this really only applys to 100% veg oilor winter motoring.
Allways found the older non banana Di runs way better on new veg oil and returns better MPG as well.
