Euro roadside gearbox and clutch replacement

Hello, Im broken down in France in my 53 reg 2.4 RWD 125 Transit with 105000 miles on it. The gearbox bearing has failed and the clutch isn't feeling that good either.

I got recovered off the French motorway (240 euro if anyone was interested...) and have had a quote to fix it from the Ford garage in the town near where it broke down for 2600 Euro. This includes a brand new gearbox, clutch and slave cylinder, all of which they say needs replacing.

I just dont have that kind of money and the van is only worth about 2000 quid and were are on a bit of a holiday, so I have decided to tackle it myself. I am actually living in the van now, just on the road outside the Ford Garage with my girlfriend...

I have found a clutch and gearbox on ebay and was wondering if anyone knew of a link of how to remove the gearbox, I believe you need to remove the suspension cross member? I would really like to see some photos if anyone has any.

I am planning on fixing it on the side of the road once i get the parts delivered. I have already ordered a solid flywheel and cluctch kit, should be here next week, and have found a couple of gearboxes for 275 plus around 100 quid for shipping on eBay, I havent decided which one to get yet.

Anyway looking for a bit of advise, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I dont have that many tools out here, are there any special ones I need to get the box out? Are there any Torx bolts to remove and what size I will need to buy. I have a trolley jack, axle stands, a socket set from 6 up to 21mm hammers and screwdrivers spanners n stuff so I think I should be good, I have changed 2 clutches before, both Toyota's though..

Ill definatly get some photos and post them up here as I go along as it should be quite an experience.

Couldn't you find a small garage that might fit the parts you're getting hold of

Well so far I have asked 3 small garages and they have all said either:

"No, it is not possible. Its is a Ford, you must go to a Ford garage, you stupid Englishman"

"No it is not possible if we do not supply the parts, how are we supposed to make any money, you stupid Englishman"

"Yes it is possible, we will book it in if you like, the earliest we could do it is the 2nd of August and it will take 2 weeks"

So thats why I am going to attack it myself, damn wish I was back in the UK so much easier to get things done, everyone closing for 3 hours for lunch is just crazy, getting sick of cheese and bread too.

you might need a special socket to remove the prop joint if replacement gear box is from different year,

right i done condone fraud but,

join one of the breakdown groups aa rac greenflag etc,

Wait a few days minimum 24 or 48 hours, call and make out it just happened, and get recovered to uk

then fix it,

its what i'd do,

but for the price of breakdown i never not have it 29 quid a year for full recovery priceless
