Summer/winter plug?

Postby Impact Pete » Wed Jun 23, 2010 8:11 am

Hi new to this have a 02 plate long wheel based transit, during the summer all I get out the blowers is very hot air! I was led to beleive their is a multi plug in the engine bay that you connect one during winter and one during summer? Is this right? I can see a plug not connected next to another identical one

any help much appreciated

Never heard of that, I normally adjust mine with a knob on the dash. Blue for cold, red for hot and somewhere in the middle for varying degrees warmth.

Perhaps the cable has broken or come off the lever to the flap in the heater box that selects hot or cold air.

Move the heat knob to and fro and see if things move on the heater box. (Assuming no Air Con.)

no everything is working perfectly,

The plug I was told about is situated to the right of the engine looking at front, about a foot below the main fuse box with the red cap for jump starting, there is a black and grey multi plug identical, the grey is plugged in and the black hanging down, the other side of this goes up a loom past the headlight.

I was told to plug one in for summer running and the other for winter running.

IF that is the case, it will be nothing to do with hot air from the heater

Ok but I was told it had something to do with how hot the matrix gets so allows less hot air into the system for summer running and in winter it maximised the heat into the cab.

Surely someone knows yes or no and would know what the two plugs are for as at anyone time only one can be plugged in

Sounds like someone is having you on! Post a pic of the plugs and wire colours and someone should be able to help from a wiring diagram.

Thats proper "pub talk"

The connectors you mention are for the wiring to rear of van, tank sender abs etc.....

Some are plugged in........ some aren`t depending on model & spec etc, just a common loom empty connection.

Heater core/matrix gets full max coolant flow & heat constantly.
Blending flaps & doors in heater box decide how much & what temperature the air is that gets thru vents into cab.

As suggested,cable/control fault, failing that something amiss with the control doors allowing hot air thru constant.

no one on here thinks your thick,(re other forums) they are just trying to help we dont no how much you no about your van,and its highly unlikely that ford or any other manufacturer, would expect any one to get under the bonnet and start pulling multiplugs apart, best check operation of dials as suggested/there was a ford approved westfield system for zetec engines, that involved rerouting/adding pipe work/rerouting airflow, coolant etc, that could be switched depending on tempreture, but was mainly for under cooling
