Umm I'm in trouble here...
It's not a 1st generation at all.
It was a late night typo..I'm an idiot thing.
So it's a 1990 SWB 100 with a 4BA engine.
Head gasket went garage fixed it but it blew all the water out of it's reservoir. Then I did gasket myself but same thing. Sadly it was my fault as I had put Bardahl stop leak in it and the two wee tubes going into the reservoir had blocked up. I cleaned them out and did a radiator clean with some stuff that cleans radiators and got cylinders full of water?
Have I stuffed the block?
If I re-do the gasket will it work.
The company that rectified the head the first time said it had not been tightened properly when I took the head back to them. so I made sure I tightened it right the second time.
I don't have a workshop so I have to do all repairs outside and it is either too hot, too cold, raining or one of the other machines needs fixed.
AAAArgh.
I've got a rusting British Smiley with a dodgy g/box and a 4FB would it's engine match up with the G/box on the 4BA.
Or should I just scrap them both?

Newer engine will fit, but I reckon the older one will fix up ok :)

If you have a complete good engine and are not 100% on block I'd just swap the other engine over, work will be simpler to do with less chnace for error, even if it does take a little longer.
You'll also save another headgasket set and you'll get a more certain outcome!

Youre original engine is prob fine and assembled carefully it could well work even if you resort to a block fix chenical, but if it where mine and I wanted to be certain it works I 'd use the spare.Ollie
