fitting a replacment transit 2.4 injector pump

Postby gary25cars » Sat Jul 17, 2010 11:17 am

I purchased a new bosch replacment injector pump and my engine still doesn't start, all the timing was carried out as it should have been, was told by suppler of pump to turn ign on for 30 sec off for 30 sec then on for 30 sec then it was ok to carry out the bleeding of all 4 injectors,i have diesel coming up to all injectors the engine turns over and over and over but will not start, the red led by the time clock flashes fast, the glow plug light is on and off all the time the ign is switched on.Can any one please help me sort this problem.

think your procedure was wrong for a virgin pump,do a search of forum, maybe wrong but think its turn ignition on for 60 secs,(without trying to start engine)and turn off thus letting the ecu learn your pump, also need a fully charged battery, any interuptions will tell the ecu the pumps not right and you will need to take van to have pump recoded,to ecu, pretty sure you only get one go at it..(anyone)

In most cases of pump replacement , you will need to re- initialise the pump to the rest of the immobiliser components , it needs to be done by a tool that can specifically do it , ( not just a simple fault code reader ). Member MrMpuk has the tool i think, & ( probably a few other members dotted around the country ), maybe ask & see if he or anyone else with one is close to you ? might be better / cheaper than going to £100+ an hour ford garage .

Sorry but this was incorrect, "Angeleye" got it right, you should turn the ignition on for at least 60sec before turning off, otherwise it won't work. Also the pump had to be either brand new and NEVER coded, or a recon pump that had been plugged in and "Virginised" so as it had no code.

And unfortunately, yes you do only get one shot at doing it that way :(

As now said, it will have to be plugged in either at a dealer, or by someone with the correct kit to re code it to the immobiliser. I don't have this kit, but have successfully done the coding by the above method twice so I know that works.
