spoke with my mot place , their words " we check smoke output (particulates ) only " the gas analyzer would die if stuffed up a diesel exhaust . ...... So cut open the cat rip out the insides &weld it up & fit it back again . I have known other diesels have this done & engine breathes better due to a lack of restriction in the pipe . If it looks original , they will ignore it as long as the particulates are low .hope it helps & saves you money

I've lost faith in them too. They did post on here a few times about making a de-cat pipe for the MK7, but they didn't respond to my last message and the info on their website has been removed. Shame really as there's a market for de-cat stuff for the MK6 and MK7.

easy to decat a mk6 FWD..remove front pipe and smash the cat out of it..simple..refit as removed...and the smoke from a diesel does not clogg up a anaylyser from a mot station otherwise how do they cope with non cat diesels....and its perfectly legal to remove the cat from diesel engines..

While I can accept that 'smashing the crap out of it' will de-cat the van, I can't help think that the airflow through it will be compromised when compared to putting in a replacement pipe. If you're going to go to the trouble of de-catting the van then it's worth doing it properly IMO.

Will make little difference either way, smashing the honeycombe out gets rid of all of it anyway, and as the inlet and outlet pipes of the cat are identical diameters the pressure stays the same, so the larger inside area of the cat has no effect on the exhaust system, it dosent even work as a resonator, as no baffles to slow down air flow. (hence the slightly throatier sound from the tailpipe on de-catted models.

I spoke to "Performancepipesandtuning" directly on the phone a couple of months ago, after my own Mk6 had the cat half removed by thieves (they didn't get it off completely, just cut over half way through both sides of pipe, and then got scared off by my small rotty   ), they told me that they had completed making jigs for the Mk6 and Mk7 vans and that the pipes where already being sold, but only via there E-bay site, however after I enquired about price (nearly £200  :? ) so I decided to go with the cheaper, weld in a piece of pipe, option 8)
