exhaust manifold

Postby dorisgirlracer » Fri Jul 23, 2010 2:54 pm

hi all,
will fitting an exhaust manifold and front pipe from a banana engine make any difference on a 70ps non banananananana engine?
why buy add on bits when you can make your own!

Doubt it... plus I know what the difference is now with downpipes (the g/box clamp had to be spaced on mine as if the pipe bore was too small!) the genuine downpipe is the same bore as aftermarket, but the genuine one goes to a slightly bigger bore half way down?? Hence the clamp is clamping the fatter pipe, but the 1st bit remains smaller... you could 'port' the manifold whilst it was off (remove any rough castings, espec' near where it meets downpipe! But doubt that would make little difference.
It's hard enough tuning a N/A petrol, never mind an old wheeze bag diesel.

cheers darkbluevanman, have just done a ported and polished head with some slightly bigger valves,if a twin pipe manifold wont make that much difference i might and make a 4 branch manifoldand see what happens

I think that the Banana engine has different injectors to take advantage of the better breathing :)
