 wow not shure were to start :? its a very costly conversion thats for shure and you need to be able to weld or know somebody who can weld for you! you need a good engine and box to start with normaly a borgwarner 65 or gm180, the main problem is you will loose your top speed as these gearboxes are 1-1 so what ever final drive ratio you have that will be you speed, gearshift is a big problem as well as you need a transit auto shift, you can make do with a granada one but the stick will be to short! :(
the engine will fit in with only minor mods to the bulkhead, but the gearbox crossmember must be made to take the auto box,and also the exhaust has to be made out of rover sdi down pipes etc, the propshaft will also need to be made with a rover gearbox end on it!

cooling is another problem as you need to use p6 water pump and pullys these are very rare nowdays , i would think thesedays you wont get much change out of £1500
and getting fans in to cool it is another problem!
personaly i would not go for this conversion its a hard job ,dont get me wrong i love my v8,s but it is tricky to do! :D

the inlet isn't a direct fit but i know a bloke who runs a carbed 2.9 in a cortina.
the 2.9 Efi is real simple to do, in fact i have to convert a transit to 2.9 efi as soon as i can find an ambulance or SVO van that has the 2.9 in it for the mounts, when i do it i'll post a how to.
Current fleet
Mk7 transit ambulance
Mk1 Mondeo 1.8 STD
Mk5 fiesta 1.25
Mk6 fiesta 1.4TDCi

hi bill you will have to make the engine mounts mate,i think with abit of messing around with the rover ones and useing the round ford mounts off the 2ltr they will fit! the exaust will be easyer for you as you dont have a mk3 so there is a chance the sdi downpipes will fit! the mk3 have to be made up useing 2 from the same side ! :?
