injector rattle?

Hi, transit 02 T280 TD2.0 which I believe has an injector rattle ! Is it possible to remove inspect and clean for a competent DIY mechanic ? As having read Haynes manual they need to be set up with a special tool ?? Or would it be worth running a good injector cleaner through first??

Thanks for the replies. I've tried some injector cleaner now, with new fuel and air filters no joy!!! As for what is injector rattle a friend of mine had similar symptons on his landcruiser and it was blocked injectors, as in the engine rattles badly when under load with some white smoke out of exhaust, but ticks over perfectly??

Do not mistake the sound for an injector problem it could be a fuel solenoid problem on the fuel pump also..

It is well known that injector number one usually gives in and can make such a rattle when under load however, the same rattle can be heard if the fuel pump solenoid is at fault..

This is what happened to my van and i replaced the fuel pump which resolved the problem for me. However, some just replace the solenoid, with that being the cheapest way forward which can also resolve the problem, all be it a very fiddly job mind..

Get it checked first to see what the fault is, although what sounds like an injector fault may not necessarily be an injector.. My bet is the fuel pump timing solenoid in the fuel pump itself..

Thanks for the posts, its a long story but this engine was changed 6 months ago.
Since the change the glow plug light has been flashing, was advised to change loom from old engine.
Today had the codes read and was advised to change inlet manifold, egr valve and turbo of old engine to clear fault codes.
Unfortunately I sold the turbo a couple of months ago.
I've spent the day changing the other bits over incuding the loom leaving existing turbo on.
Just started her up and ran her round the block glow plug light now extinguished and the rattle has diminished some what.
Van is now running a dream apart from only a slight rattle now.
Having the codes read again tomorrow!!

yep when the pump on the new engine was coded.

If the turbo appears to be at fault, i do have a spare one i could let you have cheap if you are interested.. However, it is from a 03 plate 2.4 duratorq tho ..

Unfortunately had it checked today mechanic is pretty certain its a piston thats shot.
Looks like i'm trawling the net now for another engine
