Transit Starter Question!

Postby lwschram » Tue Sep 28, 2010 7:31 pm

I am building a kit car sold out of the UK, it is a JZR and it's supposed to use a starter out a Ford Transit (unsure of the year, but know it is NOT a 1.6 ). The starter is a permanent magnet style, with a very small body which is needed for clearance, a three bolt configuration with an 83mm flange measured from my supplied adaptor plate. (My measurement could be a mm or so off) I need is this starter, however as it is a UK item and I am from Prince George, BC Canada it has been difficult getting information. So, does anyone have any information as to which starter this could be, a make and model # of the starter, that way we can source it new, and if not we would need a salvage yard (or member of this forum) who would have one available.

The car is a replica of a 1933 three wheel Morgan, using a Harley Davidson motorcycle motor. I have a adaptor plate cut out to fit a Cortina bellhouse with a 5 speed Ford type 9 gearbox. However, because of the bolt pattern and thickness of the Harley Davidson's cases a stock starter from a Cortina or a 1.6 Transit is too large. The kit supplier says the starter they use is a later model gas Transit, using a permanent magnet type, resulting in a much smaller body. I think it has a nine tooth pinion, which I will have to change to a 10 tooth to fit my pressure plate. Again, it is a three hole with about a 82-83 mm flange.
Thanks
